Etymology. The ethnonym Rendille translates as "Holders of the Stick of God". Overview. The Rendille are believed to have originally migrated down into the Great Lakes area from Ethiopia in the more northerly Horn region, following southward population expansions by the Oromo and later the Somali.

Traditionally, they are nomadic pastoralists, tending camels, sheep, goats and cattle. The Rendille are pastoral nomads inhabiting a wide area in the arid north of Kenya, east of the Ndoto mountain range and lake Turkana and west of Marsabit. Their language is closely related to Somali.

In collaboration with Karaba Sahado, Rendille book Rendille singer and poet, more than 1, proverbs and sayings were gathered for the present : Günther Schlee, Karaba Sahado.

The book tells of the African people called Rendille, who are known for their ability to survive the harsh conditions of the Kaisut Desert in central Kenya.
